How to make a YouTube link open in the YouTube app from Instagram

You put your video in your Instagram bio, a follower taps it, and instead of the YouTube app they get a slow web page inside Instagram where they’re not logged in. They can’t subscribe without signing in, so most of them don’t.

I built openin.app because this was costing me subscribers on every post. The fix takes about ten seconds and it’s free. Here’s exactly what to do, and why it works.

The fix, step by step

Open the YouTube app, find your video or channel, tap Share, then Copy link.

Paste that link into the box below (or on the openin.app homepage) and tap Create.

Enter your email. Your new link appears right there, something like openin.app/go/abc123.

Copy it and paste it into your Instagram bio, a story sticker, or a caption, in place of the YouTube link.

Test it: open your own profile in the Instagram app and tap the link. The YouTube app should open, already logged in.

Why a normal YouTube link doesn’t open the app

When you tap a link inside Instagram, Instagram opens it in its own built-in browser rather than handing it to your phone. That browser has no idea you’re logged in to YouTube. A plain youtube.com or youtu.be address carries no instruction to launch the app, so it just loads the web page.

An openin.app link is different: when it’s tapped, my server looks at the phone and the app the tap came from and sends the viewer straight to the YouTube app using the app’s own opening mechanism. If the YouTube app isn’t installed, it falls back to the normal web page, so nothing breaks.

What your viewer sees

They tap, the YouTube app opens on your video, and the subscribe button works because they’re already signed in there. No login prompt, no “open in browser” menu hunting. On a desktop computer the same link simply opens YouTube in a normal tab.

You see a click count for every link on your openin.app dashboard, so you can tell which post actually drove people to the video.

Does this work for channels, Shorts and playlists?

Yes. Video links, Shorts, channel pages, playlists and live streams all work. Paste whatever the Share button gives you; you don’t need to clean it up.
